Mike's 30 seconds of fame

We have uploaded the TV advert for DLRAA to YouTube. The advert stars Mike Dilks, 59 from Melton Mobray. His car was so badly smashed up the make and model was totally unrecognisable.

Here is Mike’s story…

“Its quite simple - they saved my life”

“Without a doubt I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance. Its quite simple – they saved my life.”

Mike collided with an articulated truck and was trapped inside his car with life threatening injuries.

Mike’s condition was very serious and he needed urgent medical attention. The crew from the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance were called to the scene to provide life saving attention.

Mike spent four agonising hours trapped in the car as emergency services cut him out. The DLRAA crew were able to stabilise his condition, and he was later air lifted to Coventry Hospital where he spent weeks in intensive care.

I have no doubt that the response time from the Air Ambulance is why I’m still here today.

Returning to the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Base in September last year and being reunited with the crew that saved my life was very emotional. Just hearing the sound of the helicopter made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. Well, they do say the last thing to go is your hearing.

JACK, MIKE & EMILY-JANE: LOCAL STARS OF THE DLRAA ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN.

Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance appointed Percorsi for specialist help in raising their profile. Percorsi have launched an innovative marketing campaign to combat the credit crunch and ensure DLRAA are able to stay flying high and saving lives.

DLRAA are a registered charity relying purely on public donations to keep this vital service saving lives and costs over £1.5 million each year. Last year over 1,250 missions were flown, averaging 4 missions a day. The team serve an area of 1.2 million people living across Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.

The testimonial based campaign features TV adverts, billboards, emails, sms text and a direct mail piece to be distributed throughout the counties to promote the invaluable work the charity does. The concept focuses on real life rescue missions, such as 11-year-old Jack, who was rescued following a playground accident and had a very serious head injury, Mike was the star of the TV adverts, retelling his account of the horrific car crash in which he was trapped for four hours.

Emily-Jane (pictured), who suffered serious injuries in a car accident was glad to help raise the profile of DLRAA by appearing in their billboard campaign.
